Sally Rae's journalism career spans 21 years and she is currently agribusiness reporter at the Otago Daily Times – the first female farming editor in the paper's 150-odd year history. She is also heavily involved with her family's sheep farming operation in North Otago.
A passion for horse-riding began an involvement with the Otago Goldfields Heritage Trust's annual calvacade – and her first published book (with photographs by Stephen Jaquiery) was Gold Dust and Saddle Bags – telling the story of, and the characters involved with, the popular event. It was on the NZ best-sellers list on its first week on the book shelves.
