Only a very small number of unsolicited manuscripts or proposals are accepted for publication by Penguin Books NZ.
GENERAL INFORMATION AND ADVICE FOR WRITERS
We strongly recommend that writers visit the website of the New Zealand Society of Authors for wide-ranging advice and information about writing and getting published in New Zealand. If you are interested in writing and need general information and advice on how to begin, it is a good idea to look on the internet or in your local library for books that will help you with the genre of writing you are interested in. Getting in touch with a writers' group in your region is also helpful. These groups can offer assistance with the writing process, agents and manuscript assessment services. It is not Penguin Books NZ's practice to assess manuscripts or to provide feedback on manuscripts we receive.
GUIDELINES FOR MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION
Please send a synopsis and the first three chapters only. A hardcopy is preferred – typed and double-spaced. Please also include a covering letter with any relevant author information, e.g. previous writing experience or publications.
An acknowledgment of receipt will be sent when a submission is received and no further correspondence will be entered into. It may take up to three months to review material and Penguin will respond only to authors whose manuscripts it wishes to develop.
Please note that we are unable to return material to authors.
Penguin Books NZ doesn’t publish poetry, individual short stories, science fiction, fantasy fiction, or scholarly academic works.
Important Note: Please do not submit original versions of manuscripts or artwork. It is Penguin Books NZ's policy not to return manuscripts or other materials to authors.
