Crown Lynn

A New Zealand Icon

Being brought back into print due to increasing demand, this book is a must-have for collectors or anyone with nostalgic feelings for this iconic brand.

Unavailable since 2017, this beautiful and informative book is coming back into print in April 2023.
Crown Lynn china now has iconic status. From its early days of churning out railway china, Crown Lynn became a hugely successful business and the largest pottery in the Southern Hemisphere. The New Lynn factory closed in 1989, but their domestic ware is now one of New Zealand's hottest collectibles with over 600 items advertised on Trade Me at any one time. The Crown Lynn story is an irresistible mix of innovation, stunning products and vivid characters. Illustrated throughout with photographs of china, from the most divine to the truly eccentric, Crown Lynn is a book with very wide appeal, from aunties and grannies to stylish young collectors. A catalogue of backstamps makes the book indispensable for collectors and antiques dealers.

About the author

Valerie Monk

Valerie Ringer Monk first developed an interest in Crown Lynn over a decade ago, when she began picking up plates and 1970s mugs in second-hand shops. The retro patterns and colours appealed, as did the 50-cent price tags. As her Crown Lynn collection grew, so did her desire to write the story of the people who made it and the factory it came from. A journalist and public relations professional, Valerie lives near Whangārei.
