His patients range from the stingiest and most cunning widow in Scotland to a pantomime actress, and from a hen-pecked husband who disappears to the wife of a football hero. Then there are the Scobie sisters, who have managed to live together for fifteen years without speaking. Finlay tackles them all with compassion and his trademark Scottish humour.

About the author

AJ Cronin

A. J. Cronin was a Scottish doctor and author best known for the novels The Stars Look Down (1935) and The Citadel (1937). His novella Country Doctor was adapted as the popular BBC drama series Dr Finlay's Casebook, which ran from 1962 to 1971 on television and from 1970 to 1978 on radio. In 2001 and 2002, BBC Radio 4 produced new adaptations of the stories, entitled Dr Finlay: The Adventures of a Black Bag and Dr Finlay - Further Adventures of a Black Bag.
