Founded in 1946, The Harvill Press quickly established an almost unrivalled reputation for introducing dissident Russian writers to an English-speaking readership during the Cold war. Today it continues to build bridges across cultural and ideological divides. Leopard, an occasional anthology, embraces the work of outstanding writers from all over the world. The present volume includes essays by Jenefer Coates, Stephen Becker, Carol Brown Janeway, Julio Cortázar, Adriaan van Dis, Julien Gracq, Ismail Kadare, Claudio Magris, Anna Maria Ortese, Jonathan Raban and José Saramago. The poetry selection has a new translation by Peter Norman of Aleksandr Pushkin's The Bronze Horseman, and pieces by Paul Durcan, Gesualdo Bufalino, Ernst Jandl and Bruno K. Öijer. There are stories by Ken saro-Wiwa, Murray bail, Starling Lawrence, Javier Marías, Luigi Malerba, Julian Mazor, Neva Mullins, James Salter, Ludmilla Ulitskaya and Yi Mun-yol. Extracts from the novels of Lionel Abrahams and Slobodan Selenic and photography from Robert Mort's Burmese Journey are also included.
