Not With Silver

A vividly realised historical novel about three generations of an African family, and their experiences of slavery, which draws on the author's wider ancestral history.

Abiola is raised as an aristocratic African warrior in a highly developed civilisation, but when he is betrayed and sold into slavery in America he is forcibly transformed into the property of a French immigrant. Renamed Cornelius, he and fellow slave Delilah begin a relationship which culminates in the birth of their daughter, Epiphany, and the new family plan to escape their servitude and find a better life for themselves...

But can they return to Africa and find true freedom?

Simi Bedford

Simi Bedford is the author of two novels. Yoruba Girl Dancing is based on the poignant and sometimes hilarious experiences of being sent from home in Nigeria as a young child to boarding school in an England that still had its empire. Not With Silver is an account of slavery told through the story of one African family's experiences across generations. Educated at Durham University, she read Law before moving into the world of tv, radio and the media. She divides her times between Devon and London.
