About the author

Mick Pendergrast

Mick Pendergrast (1932-2010) was a distinguished New Zealand curator, ethnologist, researcher, collector and author of books about Māori arts and crafts, for which he had cultivated a lifelong interest. He taught on the East Cape and in the Solomon Islands, worked in many of New Zealand's museums, and curated two exhibitions of Māori weaving: 'Feathers and Fibre' at the Rotorua Art Gallery in 1982 and 'Te Aho Tapu: The Sacred Thread' at the Auckland Museum in 1987. He was awarded an associate Emeritus of Auckland War Memorial Museum in 2002. His other books include Te Mahi Kete, Te Aho Tapu and Fun with Flax.
