Bluey Book Week costumes

Rita and Janet from Bluey: Grannies

Love this cheeky duo? Dressing up like Rita and Janet couldn’t be easier. With a few easy-to-find items, you’ll be set. Don’t forget the beans!

What you need:

• Towel
• Claw or other cane
• Fancy glasses
• Beans

To make:

Drape the towel around your head and body like a shawl then ad some fancy glasses and a cane. Print a bean label or colour your own to finish off the look.

Mermaid from Bluey: The Beach

Take some inspiration from Bluey: The Beach and dress up like a beautiful mermaid this Book Week. Use a cardboard box to create the perfect mermaid tail. Draw on waves, scales, or even tiny shells to complete the look. A touch or two of colourful zinc will also pair perfectly with this costume.

What you need:

• Cardboard box
• Markers
• Shells to decorate

To make:

Cut a mermaid tail from the cardboard, then decorate it to your heart’s desire. Finish the look with some colourful zinc on your face, and you’ll be ready to hit the beach with Bluey in no time.

Margaret from Bluey: Swim School

Get ready to teach the mischievous Heeler family how to swim by dressing up as Margaret the swim instructor. Though she might be tough to impress, Margaret’s signature crab-shaped goggles make the perfect book week costume.

What you need: 

• Purple swim cap
• Green goggles
• Scissors
• Hot glue
• Red paper

To make:

To replicate Margaret’s look, all you need is a purple swim cap and crab goggles that you can make yourself. Using scissors, cut crab legs and claws out of red paper. Ask an adult for help if you need! Then, with adult supervision, hot glue the paper crab legs and claws to the side of the green goggles. Wear your regular outfit or a poolside-inspired costume then finish the look with your purple swim cap and copy of Bluey: Swim School. 

Fruit Bat from Bluey: Fruit Bat

Have you ever dreamt you were a fruit bat like Bluey does? If you’ve ever wanted to stay up all night, channel your inner Bluey and dress up like a fruit bat to fly around the night sky.

What you need:

• Purple towel or sheet
• Fruit

To make:

Create bat wings by draping the towel around your arms or shoulders. Grab your favourite piece of fruit to finish the look. . . and snack on while hanging with the fruit bats.

Bob Bilby Puppet from Bluey: Bob Bilby

The Heeler family loved showing Bob Bilby a good time. If you want to entertain Bob Bilby too, why not bring him on your own adventure this book week?

What you need:

•  Felt (A4 sheet: 3x purple, 1x light pink, 1x beige, 1x black and 1x white)
• Needle and thread or fabric glue
• Paintbrush
• Scissors
• Sewing pins
• Pen

Bandit from Bluey: My Dad is Awesome

Everyone loves Bandit Heeler, Bluey and Bingo most of all. Celebrate this beloved cartoon dad by dressing up as him for Book week.

What you need:

• Straw hat
• Rake
• Backpack
• Cricket bag
• Squash racquet bag

To make:

Put on all of your Bandit-inspired accessories and get ready for a day of fun. If you have a Bluey or Bingo stuffed animal, carry them under your arms as Bandit does.

Queen from Bluey: Queens

Bluey and Bingo love their mum, and she loves them too. Dress up as Chilli, queen of the family this book week and be ready to walk the rainbow carpet.

What you need:

• Crown

• Yellow coloured paper
• Scissors
• Marker

• Sceptre
• Wooden spoon

To make:
