Caroline Graham

Book for an event

Dr Caroline Graham is a Walkley Award-winning investigative journalist and journalism/creative arts lecturer, who has spent the better part of a decade thinking, reading and writing about memory. The Memory Addicts is her first novel and was written as part of a PhD on the links between memory, history and empathy.
Caroline is the co-author of the Australian bestseller Larrimah and the co-writer/co-producer of Lost in Larrimah, a six-part literary true crime podcast published by The Australian which won a Walkley Award.
In 2023, she co-wrote/co-produced the ABC documentary Outback Musical and co-led the team that wrote the NT Schools in Crisis series, a year-long investigation that uncovered major human rights violations in access to education in remote Australia and won a Walkley Award and five NT Media Awards. She co-authored Writing Feature Stories: How to research and write articles— from listicles to longform, writes fiction and creative non-fiction and has spearheaded collaborative investigative journalism projects for The Guardian and a range of other publications. She has also won a national teaching award for her approach to teaching public-interest investigative journalism and received an emerging writers’ grant from Screen Queensland.
Caroline lives on the Gold Coast, Australia, with her wife, Ali, a cheeky border collie and a cat named after Isabelle Huppert. She tries to start most mornings with a swim in the ocean at the beautiful nearby Burleigh Headland.

She teaches journalism and creative writing at Bond University, where she is an Associate Professor and the Communication Discipline Lead. As a journalist, her notebook grants her access to conversations with sources ranging from prostitutes to politicians, criminals to pop-culture idols. She turned to fiction as a way of telling the stories that stuck with her, years later—the ones that were too strange and magical to preserve in newsprint, but too important to forget.
