Dick Couch is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Acade-my and served with the Navy UDT and SEALTeams. While a platoon commander with SEALTeam One in 1970, he led one of the only successfulPOW rescue operations of the Vietnam War. Onrelease from active duty in 1972, he joined the Cen-tral Intelligence Agency where he served as a Mari-time Operations officer. Dick retired from theNaval Reserve in 1997 as the senior reserve SEALofficer with the rank of captain. He began his writ-ing career in 1990 and has published four novels:SEAL Team One, Pressure Point, Silent Descent, andRising Wind. The Warrior Elite was his first non-fic-tion work, published in November of 2001 byCrown Books. US Armed Forces Nuclear, Chemical,Biological Survival Manual (Basic Books), edited byDick, will be publishing in Feb. 2003. In the sum-mer of 2003, Dick and Cliff Hollenbeck, award win-ning photo journalist, will publish To Be a NavySEAL (Motor Books International), a table-top, full-color pictorial book that will feature BasicUDT/SEAL Training with a 20,000 word essay byDick. Scheduled for release in the fall of 2003 is TheMercenary Option, a novel to be published by Pock-et Books.
