For sale or swap. Eye-catching brown pony. Fully educated. Royal quality. Consider swap for beginner's mount.

Shelby is convinced her reliable but ugly pony, Blue, is holding her back at Pony Club. If only she had a beautiful horse, everyone would see what a great rider she is. But how can Shelby buy a new horse when her parents can't even afford to pay her Pony Club fees? When she sees an ad for an eye-catching brown pony for sale or swap, Shelby thinks she's found the answer to all her problems. Maxshine Celtic Copper - otherwise known as Brat - seems perfect. But swapping a pony who's your best friend for a highly strung horse whose beautiful brown coat washes out with shampoo turns out to be a really bad idea.

The race is on for Shelby and her friends to catch a horse thief, find her beloved Blue and return Brat to her rightful owners.

Praise for For Sale Or Swap

I really liked this story… My favourite character is Shelby, because she is very determined to find her horse and she doesn't care what others say… I would like to read more about Shelby and Blue's adventures.

This was an excellent read! I could really relate to the character Shelby because I live on a small farm and have always wanted a horse.

Hiliary Thornberry, Age 11, Random House Book Buddies

I liked the way it was real life… I could never tell what would happen next!

Claudia Buckmaster, age 11, Random House Book Buddies

I really liked how as you read it you felt the emotions of the characters and surroundings. The writer really described the characters to seem so real. My favourite was probably Blue, he seemed so sweet! A well-written story, with characters you can relate to.

Gaby Wills, age 11, Random House Book Buddies

This is the most fantastic book for pony lovers – and every other girl for that matter! … A great read for girls aged 9–12.

Launceston Examiner

Brugman’s novel flows beautifully, and you can almost believe that Shelby the heroine is sitting next to you, confiding her story into the reader. The story is heartfelt and meaningful, with an underlying message that appears more and more as the story progresses – beauty is only skin deep.
