A junior fiction series about an up-and-coming cricketer who is mentored by Australian cricket star Glenn Maxwell.

Will Albright is a batting whiz and captain of his local cricket team. But when his coach nominates him to attend a T20 training camp, Will soon discovers that standing out in a sea of young cricket talent isn’t easy. Especially when Darren ‘Killer’ McKinnon, a super-quick pace bowler, has taken a deadly dislike to him. Luckily, Will’s hero, Glenn Maxwell, is on hand to provide some much-needed advice.

If Will can survive Killer’s bouncers, he may just have a shot at making it through the camp alive and gaining a place at the brand-new T20 Youth Academy.

About the authors

Patrick Loughlin

Patrick Loughlin is a high school English teacher and writer who lives in Sydney with his wife, two daughters and hyperactive spoodle. As a kid, Patrick loved sport, he just wasn't very good at it.

Patrick is the author of the Billy Slater Rugby league series and the Glenn Maxwell cricket series.

Glenn Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell is one of Australia's most promising young cricket players. At just 26 years of age he is a fixture of the Australian One Day International and T20 sides, and has featured in the Australian Test team. Glenn is a big-hitting batsman who can also bowl a handy off spin. With a fine catch and a lethal arm, Glenn has also established himself as one of the top fielders in the game.

Glenn was awarded Most Valuable Player in the 2014 Indian Premier League season as well as recently being named Australia's Twenty20 Player of the Year for 2014. Glenn was born in Kew, Victoria and is busy playing cricket in Australia and overseas.

Praise for Glenn Maxwell 1: Lucky Break

Easily read, interesting even for a bystander but I imagine riveting for young players, the Glenn Maxwell books should prove wildly popular.

Rayma Turton, Magpies magazine

This series is very accessible to those readers who may not be our most accomplished readers and is also highly engaging. One of the stand outs for me is that our talented girl players are not ignored – in fact, they give the boys a run (sorry!) for their money! There are two more episodes already on the release lists and my prediction is that these books will be devoured by both boys and girls who aspire to wearing the baggy green for our great country. You simply can’t go wrong in getting these onto your library shelves and while we are in the tail end (sorry, again) of the year, you just know your kids are going to come back in January, rehashing every match they have watched. See these fly off the shelves then!

Patrick Loughlin writes so well that, even though I don’t like cricket, I still enjoyed reading this book. This story made me want to play cricket!
