Praise for Hairy Maclary and Friends How Do I Feel?

There's a lot of board books on the market...'How do I Feel?' gets it just right. It's a board book and a lift-the-flap book. Little kids love turning the flaps and love the surprise underneath. It also teaches them what's out of sight hasn't disappeared forever (called object permanence learned around 8-months old), an important development stage for babies...They'll discover 20 key emotions, which will help young ones to understand, name and talk about their emotions. This is great timing for the toddler, who might be going through the tantrum stage. Once they learn the name of the different emotions, parents can say, 'Use your words' and help the child to outgrow that tanty stage. Highly recommend for families with toddlers.

Emotions and feelings are so important at Indie’s age, and she is in the process of working out what they all mean and trying to understand them better. This book helped me to explain to her that all feelings are normal and that there is always a place for them. There is also a humorous element to the book, catering to both parents and toddlers, so we had lots of giggles as we read together. Definitely a book worth buying if you have a toddler in the family, especially one who likes to do everything themselves and who may be small, but has big feelings!

Kids love these flap books and with the range of animals pictured it, including Hairy Maclary (sad, mischievous, sleepy) and Scarface Claw (scary) will be a popular choice for little ones. Dame Lynley Dodd is one of New Zealand’s best-loved authors.

An awesome addition to any child’s library and will be helpful in identifying and expressing feelings in a fun, safe manner.
