Healthy Shouldn't Be This Hard

A Simple Way to Eat, Think and Feel Well

Blending the latest science of gut health and mindset with nutrition, a leading Harley Street nutritionist shows how self-compassion is the missing ingredient for cultivating healthy, lifelong eating habits.

Changing your diet may not change your life. But changing how you think about what you eat will.

Despite an onslaught of nutrition advice, diet books and ‘protocol’ bros bombarding us with hacks for optimal physical health and mental well-being, we are not as healthy as they’ve promised we could be.

These trends thrive in a world where we are increasingly busy, stressed and mentally exhausted, turning to viral recipe fads and ultra-processed foods for quick dopamine hits and temporary comfort. In turn, these nutritionally poor choices further impact our mental health and energy levels, leaving us even more susceptible to unhealthy habits.

But there’s a simple way out of this cycle.

Unravelling the science of the intricate connections between our emotional well-being and physical nourishment, top nutritionist Sarah Ann Macklin reveals why cultivating compassion is the key to a healthier, more fulfilling life. With encouraging advice on how to approach our nutrition with self-compassion, and recipes to nourish our bodies and minds, we learn how to not just make better choices, but to make them for the right reasons, free from fear, shame or self-judgment.

Here, at last, is a transformative approach for healthy eating habits for life.

About the author

Sarah Ann Macklin

Sarah Ann Macklin is a leading nutritionist and founder of the acclaimed podcast ‘Live Well Be Well’. A former top international model, she spent years pursuing the ‘perfect’ body until extreme burnout forced a reckoning. Over a decade ago, she walked away to study nutritional science, to understand why all the 'right' habits had left her so unwell. Her years in a Harley Street practice inspired her to help an even wider audience break free from the optimisation trap, and through her podcast, she has interviewed some of the world’s leading health minds. Sarah Ann has spoken to the European Parliament on dietary guidelines, emphasising their connection to the Type 2 diabetes epidemic, and has contributed to publications like the Financial Times, Telegraph and Harper’s Bazaar.
