Home for Dinner

Making mealtimes matter

Eating together is good for us but it’s not always easy to manage. Australia’s most trusted home cook and first MasterChef shares her smart strategies, time-saving hacks and delicious, low-effort recipes to put the joy back into family dinners.

Dinner isn’t just about cooking – it’s the planning, the shopping, the constant juggle of time, budgets and working out who’s actually home to eat. In Home for Dinner, Julie Goodwin takes on the real challenge of mealtimes.

This is more than a collection of recipes. It’s a way to set your kitchen up so it works for you, like your own ready-meal section, stocked with dishes that are better (and cheaper) than takeaway – think Spanish Chicken Tray Bake on a busy Monday, Burning Noodles with Prawns in half an hour, build-your-own burger night, or a Veggie Bolognese ready to go when plans change.

Inside you’ll find:

Budget-friendly and family-tested recipes
Prep-ahead, cook-ahead and freezer-friendly meals
Smart planning strategies to reduce stress and waste
Flexible dishes that adapt to your household and schedule
Easy but impressive options for special occasions – including desserts
Plus all the sides, sauces and spices to stretch meals a little further and make every dinnertime a pleasure

Whether you’re cooking for one, feeding a crowd or managing something in between, Home for Dinner will help you simplify the process and make space for what matters most: coming together at the end of the day.

About the author

Julie Goodwin

Since becoming Australia’s first MasterChef, Central Coast mum-of-three Julie Goodwin has become a household name. Formerly an IT professional, she wrote a monthly column for the Australian Women's Weekly for ten years, and is a bestselling cookbook author. In 2015 Julie appeared on ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’ and in 2016 Julie she joined the Central Coast's Breakfast Weekday Show with Rabbit, 4 years’ worth of laughs and positivity. In 2022 ‘Jules the OG’ burst back onto our screens in ‘MasterChef Fans and Favourites’ with that same quick-witted sense of humour and trademark honesty. She wowed the Judges (again) with her classic but perfectly executed dishes, securing herself a spot in the top 5, and Australia fell in love with her all over again. This time it wasn’t just her cooking that had Australia talking, but also her openness and willingness to share her struggles with mental health over the past decade. Using her privileged position of profile, Julie has vowed to keep the conversation going and is working with Beyond Blue. Her first cookbook, Our Family Table, is one of the highest selling cookbooks in Australian history.
