Hormone Health is Mental Health

How perimenopause hijacks your brain — and how to reclaim yourself

A lifechanging guide to understanding perimenopause and midlife women’s mental health – and how understanding your hormones is the first step to feeling like yourself again.

This book is for women in their thirties, forties and fifties who feel like they’re falling apart. Women who feel like their brains and bodies are betraying them, but nobody can tell them why. It’s for women in perimenopause who don’t even realise it – because they were told to look for hot flushes rather than anxiety, brain fog or rage.

Menopause expert Dr Fatima Khan reveals the explosive truth about perimenopause and the mental health crisis unfolding in women around the world. She exposes the medical blind spots that leave women misdiagnosed with depression and anxiety, unpacks the science of the hormone–brain connection, and delivers the three pillars of treatment and support that actually help.
Hormone Health is Mental Health covers everything you’ve never been told about your hormones, including:
– Why mental health symptoms arrive years before the first hot flush
– The hormonal shifts unmasking ADHD and neurodivergence in midlife women
– The truth about HRT and breast cancer risk
– The identity reckoning that no prescription can solve for you
– Scripts for every conversation – with your doctor, your partner and your workplace.

This book will help you connect the dots, advocate for yourself and finally understand what’s happening inside your brain. It pulls back the curtain on the perfect storm surrounding perimenopause, and guides women to finally reclaim their bodies, their minds and themselves.

About the author

Dr Fatima Khan

Dr Fatima Khan is a women’s health doctor and menopause expert. After studying medicine at Imperial College London, she trained in psychiatry, obstetrics and gynaecology, and general practice. She holds the Advanced Certificate in Menopause Care from the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare, awarded in partnership with the British Menopause Society – the qualification that recognises practitioners trained to manage complex menopause cases and accept referrals. In 2019 she moved from London to Melbourne, founding The Menopause Clinic at Epworth Hospital in 2020 and opening it in its own home in Cremorne in 2024. Her approach is whole-system – hormonal care alongside the foundations of nutrition, sleep, stress and movement, and the inner work. With twenty years in medicine and a decade focused on women’s hormonal and mental health, she has helped thousands of women across Australia feel like themselves again.

Praise for Hormone Health is Mental Health

A revelation. This book will save your sanity, your health, your relationships and maybe even your life. I cannot recommend it enough.

Zoë Foster Blake

Compassionate, practical and grounded in science. Every woman should read this book.

Shelly Horton

This is the book I wish I could hand every woman who has sat in front of me convinced she is, or having been told she is, ‘just anxious’ or ‘just depressed’. Dr Fatima Khan names what so many of us in menopause medicine see every day but the wider medical world still does not recognise; hormones are brain health. Evidence-based, but deeply compassionate, this book has the potential to save lives.
