Mars One

I Am Pilgrim meets The Martian meets Tomorrow & Tomorrow & Tomorrow in this fast-paced action-adventure thriller that asks the question: what is the cost of human progress, and are we willing to pay the price?

Alyssa Wright is about to lead the most ambitious space exploration mission in history: a one-way journey to Mars. But two weeks out from launch, she is horribly injured. Left behind on the planet she’d hoped to escape for ever, Alyssa becomes obsessed with the ongoing Mars One mission and uncovers what she believes to be a conspiracy that could put the very lives of her crew at risk.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the planet, a young coder goes missing, leaving behind a cryptic message for his sister, Jia: destroy my hard drives, protect my cat. Forced to flee the violent forces pursuing her, Jia realises that her brother must have uncovered a dark, dangerous secret – and now, Jia is the only person who can save him.

At the same time, millions of kilometres away, as the Argo continues to race towards Mars, the crew must grapple with the emotional fall-out of leaving the rest of their species behind. But when small mistakes and minor malfunctions turn into a disastrous spacewalk, they are forced to ask themselves a terrifying question: is there a saboteur on board?

These three strands collide in a breathless, edge-of-your-seat thrill ride that takes the reader from the besieged city of Hong Kong, across the plastic-choked waters of the North Pacific Gyre, to the barren plains of the Kazakh Steppe, and out into the depths of space, asking: what is the cost of human progress, and are we willing to pay the price?

Praise for Mars One

Charlotte Robinson is a story genius!

Naomi Alderman, bestselling author of The Power

With the tension of a launch-pad countdown and the intrigue of an international spy thriller, Mars One is an explosive debut novel that’s out of this world. I genuinely felt I’d left earth behind and was heading towards Mars with the characters… that’s the litmus test of great writing. Charlotte Robinson is one to watch.

Janice Hallett, Sunday Times bestselling author of The Appeal

Epic in scope and wildly entertaining, Mars One is a rocket-fuelled debut that kept me glued to the pages and constantly guessing. Perfect for fans of The Martian and Gravity, I absolutely loved it!

C.M. Ewan, bestselling author of Safe House

Explosive... an immersive near-future space thriller.

Sunday Express

Mars One is a brilliant new addition to the ‘don’t go to Mars’ genre spawned by Andy Weir’s The Martian. Part LeCarré, part Armageddon it’s one of those books that manages to range all over the map and never lose pace or sight of the story. Deftly written, tightly plotted, the perfect book to read on holiday whilst congratulating yourself with every page that you did not book a ticket on a rocket to anywhere.

Simon Toyne, bestselling author of Solomon Creed

When disaster does strike, Mars One becomes a unique locked room murder mystery in a small capsule hurtling through space, in addition to a tense thriller and an examination of how humans manage to cope with unbelievable stress.

Irish Independent

This gripping near-future thriller is an impressive debut. It’s beautifully and propulsively written…a brilliant novel that includes a little bit of everything, and does it well.
