My Grandma the Stranger

A heartwarming picture book about the ups and downs of reconnecting with a grandma who lives far away, from critically acclaimed author-illustrator Angie Kang, creator of Our Lake.

On the first day of summer, Mama brings home a stranger and expects me to love her.

Grandma has met before-Ying, but she doesn’t know anything about now-Ying. And Ying definitely doesn’t know Grandma. The more time they spend together, the more Ying’s frustration grows. Can Ying and Grandma color in the spaces between their past and present?

With luminous gouache art and a tender, lyrical text, Caldecott Honoree and Charlotte Zolotow Award–winning author-illustrator Angie Kang tells the hopeful story of a family reintroducing themselves after time apart and making space for all the people they have been and will become together.
