Get ready book lovers! Penguin Books New Zealand is celebrating Aotearoa NZ Bookshop Day 2025 with a new free figurine of the iconic Penguin!

The Personal Penguin figurine is back for its second year! Following on from the success of the gift with purchase in 2024, this Bookshop Day a new penguin figurine will be available exclusively on Bookshop Day with the purchase of any two Penguin books from participating stores.

Aotearoa NZ Bookshop Day, run by the Booksellers Association, is a day to celebrate our local bookshops and the integral role they play in our community. The day aims to highlight the cultural importance of books and bookshops, and celebrate the people that bring the two together, our amazing booksellers. From personalised book recommendations to hosting a wide range of literary events, our local bookshops make an incredible impact on every reader’s book collection.

The figurines are in limited supply so make sure to get to your local participating bookshop as the doors open on 11 October!

How to Participate

  • Visit Your Local Bookshop: On 11 October, head to your nearest participating local bookshop. Check out the map of participating stores here
  • Buy Two Penguin Books: Choose any two Penguin titles that catch your eye.
  • Collect Your Personal Penguin: Receive your free Personal Penguin figurine at the checkout.
