The Denniston Rose

Jenny Pattrick's number-one bestselling novel is bound in a beautifully crafted, clothbound hardback edition for the Penguin Modern Aotearoa Classics series

A stunning foil-stamped hardback cover makes this edition of Jenny Pattrick's classic novel a must have for any serious collector's library.

High on a windswept West Coast plateau lies a bleak coal-mining settlement that makes or breaks those who live there. One night, in the height of a storm, five-year-old Rose and her mother come riding up the Incline. No one knows what has driven them there, but most agree the mother must be desperate to choose Denniston.

Rich in atmosphere, The Denniston Rose is the unforgettable story of a vanished mining town at its peak, and of the charming, indomitable Rose. But what kind of life awaits a child left to fend for herself in such a harsh and isolated community?

Praise for The Denniston Rose

It becomes a page-turner, with a good deal of solid substance to it as well.

Nina Valentine, Ballarat Courier

She knows how a good story works: a bit of staginess; the right blend of light and shade, some tragedy and humour. As Con the Brake says, 'every good story must have the taste in the mouth', and Pattrick provides it. . . we also know we're in good hands and the story will deliver on what it promise. it provides romance, tragedy and magic in equal measure.
