About the author

Li Chen

Li Chen was born in Beijing, China, and moved to New Zealand when she was five (with her parents, not as a solo child explorer, I don't think that's allowed). She's always loved drawing and has been working as a full-time comic artist since 2012. Detective Beans and the Case of the Missing Hat is her first graphic novel. When she's not drawing, Li likes to hang out with her cats or go on really long walks. Oh, and she drinks a LOT of tea.

Praise for Detective Beans and the Case of the Missing Hat

This story is hilarious, full of jokes, and amusing situations . . . It's 205 colourful pages of action-packed fun. Recommended for school and home libraries. I do hope there will be a sequel.

Mia Macrossan, StoryLinks

Through Beans’ escapades and encounters with an array of characters, Chen not only entertains but subtly deconstructs and reimagines traditional elements of detective fiction, turning a serious genre into a comedic and endearing adventure. This refreshing take adds depth to the storyline, making it an engaging read for children aged 7+ and adults alike. For fans of the adventure in the Cat Kid Comic Club series by Dav Pilkey and the crime solving in the InvestiGators series by John Patrick Green.

Emma Pei Yin, Books+Publishing

Prepare for a laugh-out-loud journey with Detective Beans, a hilarious full-colour graphic novel filled with furry friends and fiends for ages 7+! . . . Detective Beans offers a refreshing twist on the classic detective tale, featuring adorable animal characters and gentle humour that will captivate readers of every age. The purr-fect blend of cuteness and crime-solving!
